PSYCHOSOCIAL HEALTH
The term psychosocial health encompasses the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of what it means to be health.
Discuss the factors that influence your overall level of psychosocial health. Which factors can you change? Respond and comment on two of your colleagues' blogs.
The factors that influence psychosocial health are external factors, internal factors and personality. External factors are family members and their influences that can be either healthy or dysfunctional and it can also be abusive. The environment also has a major influence over our psychosocial health like being in school and our socioeconomic status. Influences that our family members have on us and people of high social class plays a huge role in our psychosocial development. The other factor is internal factors that include heredity traits, physical fitness, physical, mental and emotional health, efficiency, self esteem. Self Efficiency is when someone believes in their self and skills. When someone has a positive outlook on life they will have control over their personal life. Self Esteem is the way that a person feels about their self. Those who have a high self esteem of their self will be confident. Personality is determined by heredity, environment, culture and experiences as stated in the research. Healthy personalities are agreeableness, emotional stability, openness etc. Factors that I can change are the influence of my family and physical health and fitness
ReplyDeleteIndeed having a positive outlook on life will enable you to have somewhat of a control over your personal life. Life is fulled with challenges, up and downs. However a good and positive outlook on the situation is helpful. I always think of it as what the devil meant for evil, God meant for good. Trials and difficult times come to produce endurance, and hope and build character. Thus, believe in one self and surround yourself with positive people. So like duck, when trials and negivity comes around shake off them from your back!
DeleteI agree on what you said that the environment which includes school and also our socioeconomic status plays a vital role in our psychosocial health. Our family members brings a lot of influences on us as well both good and bad. But if we should consider our self as someone with high self esteem then it shouldn't be difficult for us to move forward and have a healthy life.
DeleteI agree to what is said, but feel as if though the external factors is very important in one's psychosocial health. Life is what me make it but if the support from family and friends is not there it can break an individual bringing down their self esteem as low as possible. This is very unhealthy as it can lead to more serious matter.
DeleteI agree to what miss Arlien said. Our environment and community play a very important role in our lives. Our Family members also plays a major role in our lives. But whatever you set your mind to do you can do it.

ReplyDeletePsychosocial health is how we live and our experiences. Factors influencing psychosocial health include External and Internal factors, Self-efficacy, and Personality. The external influences are the parts of life that we have no control over, for example where we grow and who raises us. External Factors includes family, friends and environment. The internal factors of psychosocial health are harder to see because it is what is inside you. Internal Factors such as heredity, hormonal functions and physical fitness. Self-efficacy, Self-esteem is the belief in one’s ability and sense of self-respect. I must add, some people have learned helplessness within them, which is when they give up in trying to become better and succeed. Also, personality which is the unique mix of characteristics and Influences: heredity, culture, and environment we possess. However it is proven that having a positive attitude, a positive role model, or high self esteem and self regard in a time of problems can help you remain healthy and in tune. All these factors that influence psychosocial health can be changed one way or another. For example, one could move out of a bad environment to a better one. For instance, as a teen many of the things I use to believe in I no longer do, because of educating myself on the topic I was able to alter my belief. So in my opinion the factors are changeable.
ReplyDeleteI agree that having a positive outlook, having high self esteem on a situation no matter how dark it may seem can keep you remaining healthy. Also during such difficult times it is good to have a good support system such as loyal and true friends or family. Not having a support system during these times of difficulty can result in health probles such as stress which can have ripple effects on the body. Hence in an effort to maintain a good psychosocial health all aspects of psycholocial health must be analyzed.
DeleteI totally agree with what you said, if we would have positive attitudes, be a role model to others and have a high esteem then that should allow us to have a healthy lifestyle. I believe that we need to concentrate more on the family . I consider the family as the head of where most of the influences comes from.
DeleteThat is so true having a support team like loyal friends and family can do a huge difference in someones personality knowing that they can call on someone in times of need will also up left their self esteem.
DeleteThe factors that influences how I view life and my experiences are my family and self-efficacy. The family structure and its impact on children has always been important on the development of a child. I was fortunate and blessed to have grown up in a family where there was much structure, placing emphasis on morals and values. Thus, my philosophies of life became those that are based on morals and valuing of education, the sanctity of marriage, family bond and support alongside others. This has enabled me to become a functional citizen who continues to strive for personal development and an achiever of success. Nevertheless, not all families are like mine but in contrast are dysfunctional. However, not all children who grow up in a dsyfunctional home become dysfunctional; they can become well adjusted in life.
ReplyDeleteSecond factor that influences my psycosocial health is self efficacy and having a sense of personal control. Self-efficacy is my belief about my competence or skills. I tend to like celebrating successes; thus, I endure and persevere to have a sense of control over my life. Hence, I believe in myself and my capabilities. My success and failures has propelled me to want to achieve more in life.
Finally I believe I can change factors such as social bond, environmental influences (drug) that I may be exposed to . I believe I can change these factors by simply making proactive choices such as chosing friends wisely and removing onself from the environment that exposes me to drugs etc.
I completely agree with you on the fact that family structure plays an important role in psychological health. "Charity begins at home but should not end there." Some can claim a lack of family structure growing up but I find positively educating one's self can make up for that. Also it helps you to rid yourself of negativity and helps you on your path to become a better person...
DeleteI do agree with you because family plays a big part in our lives and as for me that grew up in an area that deals wit drugs (weed) mainly its sad to see our little kids choose the wrong path in life thinking its something good to do. So indeed getting them out of that kind of exposure would be something great.
DeleteI strongly agree with what you say because the way how i view life is the same as how you view it.
DeleteI totally agree with Miss Monique. Family plays a big role on who we become in life. Apart from hereditary traits, the way family members interact with each other will determine the personality traits of an individual.
DeleteFamily structure and self efficacy is important in one psychosocial health. I feel that not much family structure but self efficacy mainly because one can come from a dysfunctional family but good self efficacy can produce a high self esteemed individual.
DeleteGetting to know the environment and not shielding our children from it will allow them to see first hand what it is, they will make that decision as whether to go the wrong path or choose the right path.
I do agree with miss. Monique on what she said. Family structure plays a major role in your life. As family we should support each other in order for them to reach their goals.
DeletePsychosocial health includes the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual areas of what it means to be healthy. The factors that influence our psychosocial health are the external health factors and the internal health factors.
ReplyDeleteThe external factors have to do with our family influences. A child’s development is determined by our family influences. This type of influence can be healthy and at the same time be dysfunctional and will show negative behavior or physical abuses. The environment such as our community including the school, our health care facilities and out socioeconomic standard is all external factors that cause influence to our psychosocial health. Most of the reactions suffered under these influences are as a result of the experiences we encounters. Families that are not united and have less communication are likely to have a negative influence in someone else’s life because of the lack of family support.
The other factor is the internal factors. This includes hereditary traits which we got from our family genes, physical health and fitness and emotional health. Another internal factor is your self efficacy. This is when someone believes in what he or she is capable of doing. If a person was good or bad in a special skill in the past, then that is what that person would get later on in life. Self esteem is a major influence in our psychosocial health as it demands self respect or confidence in someone. People that have respect and confidence have a high level of likeness by others.
Personality is another factor that influences our psychosocial health. It can be determined through our genes, the environment, our culture and the experiences that we had. Some examples of healthy personality traits are your emotional stability, the way you willingness to always want to experience and your conscientiousness which means being careful and always want to do things well.
The factor that I believe I would want to change would be the negative influences of my family which is to have a closer relationship which includes more communication that would in turn help us to have the support that we all need.
I agree that self efficacy and self esteem are major influences to our psychosocial health. Without self efficacy and self esteem how would a person turn out. Believing in one's self is very important. you must believe in yourself to have others truly believe in you. Also your self esteem or lack of will determine if you will have self efficacy. These two factors work together....
DeleteI completely agree that the family structure plays an important role in the psychosocial heath. For example children who grow in a happy family and in which moral values are taught are more likely to become successful and productive citizens in society. On the other hand children who grow in an environment in which they are exposed to violence, crime and all sorts of abuse the child will be influence by such behavior, and they would think that it is right and acceptable to behave in such a manner. As a teacher I strongly believe that I can make a difference in the life of those children. These children are locking love and attention and that is the reason why they have a behavioral problem in the classroom. Therefore with my help and support they can also become productive citizens in society as well.
DeleteIndeed, psychosocial health does encompass mental, social, spiritual, emotional and even physical activities. I also agree that they way we were raised and the type of families we were raised in plays a massive role in our psychosocial health. I believe that psychosocial health is just like any other state of healthy. One day we may be very healthy psychosocially and then something happens to throw us off balance and makes us "psychosocially unhealthy." However, with support systems in place along with our ability to be resilient or "bounce back" we are able to cope and move forward towards healthiness again.
DeleteVery vital point Patricia Welch, self esteem and efficacy are in fact major in regards to our psychosocial being.
DeleteI agree Ms Anthony, having a strong family background and strong support system is essential to the development and nurturing of any human being.Family and friends are needed to give advice, listen, provide laughter and be their in turbulent times.
DeletePsychosocial Health encompasses the mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of what it means to be healthy. Factors that influences psychosocial health are internal and external factors. The internal factors of psychosocial health are very important although we cannot see it because it is within you. A few of them are physical health status, mental and emotional health, physical fitness level, hereditary traits, and hormonal functioning. Another factor is self efficiency in which it is a person's belief he/she can be successful in life. Your moral values also play an important role in psychosocial health. Values are our fundamental beliefs. They are the principles we use to define that which is right, good and just. Values provide guidance as we determine the right versus the wrong, the good versus the bad. They are our standards.
ReplyDeleteThe external factors influences are the influences that we cannot control. The family structure is an important factor of psychosocial health because living with a family well structure where there is love and unity a child will have more chances of becoming successful in the future. On the other hand a child living in a dysfunctional family where there is violence, abuse, anger and no food a child is more likely to be delinquent having no moral values as such. In addition the environment in which someone lives has a lot to do with how a person behaves. If a person lives in an environment in which they are exposed to crime, violence, drugs that person will think that it is acceptable behavior and is at higher risk of following in those footsteps. I strongly believe that if you have a positive mind and a willing to do the right thing it can help you remain healthy and become a well rounded individual. The factors that I would like to change is the lack of family support and involvement within my own family, and also the lack of physical fitness. In conclusion both external and internal factors play a vital role in any individual's life therefore, the impact of these factors has influence on the overall well being of a person.
Yes. Ms. Magana our moral values do play a important role in our life. The values do let us know right from wrong. I totally agree.
DeleteThe factors that influence psychosocial health are the internal an the external factors, self efficacy and personality. The internal factors includes physical, mental, and emotional health, heredity traits, physical fitness. These are things that you can't necessarily see what's inside of you. The external factors are our family members mainly and their influences they have on us. It can be either healthy, abusive and also dysfunctional as well towards us. Meaning the way we're being treated by them have a huge impact on us growing up. Our environment we live in as well also plays an important role in our lives and especially in our childhood development. Self efficacy is when you have a positive outlook and knowing what you want in life. Being in control of what happens in your own personal life and your surroundings. Things that I would like to change the most is the negativity that we live in these days and the negativity coming from our very own family members and the way we're being treated by them. From my experience it hurts the most when your own family have something negative to say towards you and try to bring you down. It's just sad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about self efficiency because it is something that comes from within our own selves. You are in control of what exactly you want to achieve in life and work towards that goal. Always be positive in whatever decisions you make and I am sure you will see great results.
DeleteThe attributes of psycho social health are mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. There are two factors that are associated with it, namely internal and external factors. The internal factors are the up bringing of a person, the events and experiences that occurred in their lifetime, also the moral values that help to guide and mold a person to be a successful citizen. The good virtues that a person expresses about themselves. All these can be looked at as indicators of a person standard that they live by you can tell they motives, just by the way they behave. The Bible says that from the abundance of your heart, the mouth speaketh. This could be good or bad, just or unfairness, which can also be the actions that you do. There is a famous saying that goes like this "action speaks louder than words". A person may not utter a word to anyone but what you see them do you can judge for yourself what the intentions are. The external factor that can influence this area of a person's life could be their physical environment, where they were brought up whether in a hostile neighbourhood or a calm serene one. The family background is also important, who they were, the lifestyle which they portray. The type of friends that a person associates with is also an important factor. This could have a positive or negative effect on a person. In a group of friends there are usually leaders and followers, in which capacity do you find yourself. If a person have self efficacy, they know their self worth, they can make good sound decisions about the path that they want to take. They are fully aware of their value and purpose for their life and they live each day trying their best to live in such a way that will eventually reach their goal in life.
DeleteI agree with most of this comment. The sayings are good and true and I might add another which states that "action shows priority." However, I disagree just a little with the statement..
Delete" A person may not utter a word to anyone but what you see them do you can judge for yourself what the intentions are."
I believe that we cannot judge based on what we see others do simply because there are internal factors working along with external factors that we as the onlookers are not privy to, thereby, excluding us from the "whole context" or reason behind whatever action we observed.
I do support the need to be self-efficient and to have a very strong self-esteem in order to be able to get over the negativity that comes along with life.
In a nut shell I must say that I agree with Kimberly Heusner that the four factors of psychosocial health influence one's overall level of being external and internal. Basically it encompasses the way we think, interact with socially among others and how we adapt to our surroundings.
DeleteI agree Alison, Family is very important. I can never imagine not having my family around, they make birthdays, xmas and life on a whole even special. My in particular is the head of the structure, we can definitely depend on her for what ever challenges come our way.

DeleteLikewise I agree whenever a person believe in him/herself he/she put him/herself to complete whatever task is before them. What is also helpful if a strong family structure. The family is very important especially if they are encouraging you to be the best that you can be. Many times this is lacking and we wonder why he/her ending up failing in life. But we can always look back to view and ask what type of family structure or support was there.
ReplyDeleteThe factors that influence a person's overall level of psychosocial health form two main categories: External and Internal factors. External factors are quite simply the things around us or rather outside of our selves that affect us. These can range from the members of our families, to our school or work environments and down to our friends and social spots. Internal factors are quite the opposite, they are things that affect us from within us. They are our way of thinking, our experiences, and pretty much anything that we control from inside us.
ReplyDeleteTo some degree, our external factors cannot be changed, particularly when we are children who still depend on our adult caregivers to make decisions for us. As independent adults, however, I believe that both factors are changeable. Our ability to change these factors is based upon our determination, discipline and resiliency. We cannot, however, change the internal influences of the people who are a part of our external influences, thereby, making external factors to some degree... out of our total control.
We are able to change our internal factors in many ways like, stress reduction, seeking support groups, exercise and meditation. Being able to exercise positive control over the factors that influence our state of psychosocial well being will allow us to eventually be well developed human beings who are able to socialize peacefully and reap the most benefits from interactions with others and themselves. Essentially, people who get the best out of their lives.
Changing our internal factors is a way to relieve stress but also it can lead to more stress in the longer run knowing that family members etc will not acknowledge us in times of desperate need. As you stated that other remedies such as meditation and exercise can make a positive change.
DeleteI do agree that we can change our internal factors in ways of reducing stress and mediation and also where u said to some degree the external factors are simply out of our control.
Deletepsycosocial health has to do with the thinking part of yourself. also the
ReplyDeleteValues, attitudes, beliefs, relationship with family/others, and responses to events in
your life are usually a reflection of your mental health.
Characteristics:
Respond do disappointment or frustration without bursting into range. i agree with this because i know how to deal with my family under a certain way without having to
bursting into rage or throwing things or blaming others, or putting others down. Takes responsibility for oneself.
Situation: Suppose your friend, Frank
, goes on a weekend vacation with y
our family and puts off writing his 3-
page English paper that is due the next day. When he returns home Sunday evening, he quickly throws the paper
together without any thorough preparation or
proofreading. Frank turns the paper
in and later that week he gets it
back with a grade of a “D”. Furious, he
blames the teacher for the grade, you for inviting him on the vacation, and
his parents for not helping him proofread.

ReplyDeletePsychosocial health is basically how we see our life and experience internal and external. The internal factors of psychosocial health are important even though it’s hard to see because it is what is inside us. Hereditary traits, physical health, physical fitness, hormonal functioning, mental and emotional health are some internal factors. Personality is one of the biggest factor influencing psychosocial healths because it determines our culture background, the environment we grew up and how our parents or guardian raise us. For example in my home my mother teaches us to be loving, respect elders and how to respect ourselves. So I grew up in a manner whereby I found a lot of people like my personality like the elder folks. Some keys elements that people with good psychosocial health are agreeableness, ability to demonstrate friendly compliance, openness to experience and emotional stability. The external factor of psychosocial health is your family. They believe is that if children grow up in a happy home they will become a successful adult. However, if the kids don’t grow in a happy home and grow up in a negative home the child will become an unsuccessful adult. My mother is one of my important aspects of psychosocial health in my life. I didn’t really grow up in a happy home but that does not make me unsuccessful. I believe that if your mind is weak, you’re easily attached to negative things and people. We need to choose or friends and the people we want to be around. It’s not healthy for us to be around negative people because they will sure lead us the wrong road. Even though I grow up hearing and seeing negative behaviour, drug abuse and physical and emotional abuse those never brought me down. I look on those negative ideas as a motivation, not as something to bring me down and don’t want to achieve nothing.
ReplyDeleteI agree that you shouldn't use those examples as negativity but you should see the positive and see it as a motivation. Furthermore, it is simply your way of thinking and how you change your internal factor to suit your environment.
DeleteThe factors that influence my overall level of psychosocial health would have to do with the way my mind works in regards to applying things that are necessary for me to be healthy mentally. The second factor will fall under my emotion when interacting with others in a healthy manner for example: Doing a workout exercise with a group. The third factor of psychosocial health would be the way I adapt to social situations, for example: having the ability to listen, express my opinion and my believes, how I form a healthy relationship and acting in a responsible manner. In relation to the social factor there are two important key aspects. 1. Social bond- having to do with the interaction of social beings. 2. Social supports- having to do with advice from your boss, councilors and mentor’s. The last factor on psychosocial health is the spiritual health and this focus simply on my sense of hope, sense of purpose and connectedness to me and how I would connect it to others. According to Dr. N. Lee Smith’s quotation he/she stated the following purposes.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the mental, emotional, social, spiritual psychosocial health I can change all four elements by having a mind set to adapt to the social situations around my environment and focus on connectedness to myself and others within my surroundings.
Psychosocial health contains the social, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of what it means to be a healthy individual. The factors that simply influence psychosocial health are The Internal and External Factors. The Internal factors are somewhat inside of us, what we are made up of for example; hormonal functioning, hereditary traits, mental and emotional health and also physical fitness. The External factors I would consider as the things around us that affects us. And these can run from the members of our families to our social connection with others, friends and even our school and work environment. In somewhat manner I believe that both factors are changeable and our ability to change these two factors are probably based on our determination and our way of thinking. But, however, we cannot let the external factors around us change internally as well with us. So, I still say that in a way that it is out of our control and way. Furthermore, the internal factors can be changed simply by, meditation, exercise, stress reduction and so much more. I believe having the ability to be positive about who you are and having a positive attitude over the simple factors that influences our state of psychosocial being can allow us to be positive individual who are able to socialize peacefully with others in whatever environment, have great relationships, take responsibility and also able to come to peaceful agreements with other individuals without having to develop a rage.
ReplyDeleteHow successful, happy, healthy or sane we are in life is determined mostly by our psychosocial health, which is affected by both internal and external influences. External factors such a family’s socio-economic background, and family dynamics may have the most influence on what kind of adult one may become. However, internal factors such as physical health, strong will or personal control are ultimately the determining factor.
ReplyDeleteSome of the factors that influence our psychosocial health have to do with the things we value in life, the way we approach family members or community when dealing with certain situations, people or things, what we value in life. The relationship that we have with our family and friends, the way we react to events that happen in our lives. A reflection of our mental health and spirituality. Our characteristics play a vital role in the way people treat us and the way we respond to things that happens in our lives.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to what you said:
DeletePsychosocial Health is the well-being of an individual in both psychological and social aspects of a person’s life. It also refers to the mental and emotional health of a person (ask.com, 2014). Negativity tends to affect us and our environment, depending on how we react to those negative things in life. If we look at the negative things as a lesson learnt or finding a solution to that negative problem, this will not only help our social environment but also build us mentally.
The factors that influence Psychosocial Health are stress, hostility, depression, hopelessness, and job control, etc. All factors can be change if we work together and think more of the solution to the problem, instead of focuses on the problems (J Epidemiol Community Health, 2003). (Functionalist Theory)
Influences of psychosocial health are external(family and friends), internal (physical fitness, mental and emotional health and self-esteem). The people we have around us can have a great impact on our lives, they can influence us both positively and negatively. It is always best to rid of negative energy it tends to keep one down, effecting your livelihood, baring stress and impacting self-esteem. Keeping a positive out look on life and believing in oneself is all u need to get through life challenges. What I can do to change my psychosocial health is loosing the recommended weight and get rid of the negativity that is holding me back from excelling in life.
