View the video on health and wellness above. Also read chapter 1 in your text. Respond to the following questions below and then comment on two of your colleagues' comments
1. How are the terms health and wellness similar?
2. What does it really means to be healthy?
The terms Health and Wellness are somewhat similar according to the reading, because Health has to with the entire dynmic process of fulfilling one's potential in the psysical, social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and environmental dimensions of life; while wellness is achieving the highest level of health posible in several dimensions. It also allow the individual to be aware of between wrong and correct. Both of them, has to do with the human body and the individual itself. Gender continues to play a major role in health status and care. Women tend to have longer lives but are prone to lot of disease than men are.
ReplyDeleteHealthy to me is following the seven dimensions of wellness. Social Wellness encourage us to interact with others. Physical Wellness is when get to know your needs, it also include exercising. Emotinal Wellness allows you to be aware of and accept a wide range of feelings. Intellectual Wellness encourages creative, stimulating mental activites like puzzles and board games to keep the mind going. Spiritual Wellness involves seeking meaning and purpose in human existence. Lastly, but not least, Environmental Wellness is respecting the nature and those species living in it. It also encourage respecting others living in the environment and so fort.
Marlena, your points on health and wellness are quite accurate. Health and wellness are terms that can be used interchangeably. They are not conditions that are attainable overnight, but achieving them is actually a dynamic process. As you stated, the goal of the process is toward fulfillment in the different dimensions of life. Awareness of these dimensions is a vital step toward pursuing a path to a healthy lifestyle.
DeleteWellness is a life-style that, I believe it’s how we preserve the body and give it the essential
Deletecare that is necessary to face such a hectic life we live today. Sometimes we are so busy; we forget that we need to take care of our armour (body) as it is very important. Health is being well in any dimensions.
I do agree with Malena when she said it is reaching the highest level of health possible. A person shouldn't say they will not exercise because they are not fat. He or she must strive to keep physically healthy by walking instead of catching a bus.
DeleteTrue Marlena, without physical and mental health the body will not function and balanced properly. Being healthy is apart of our long lasting life on earth.
DeleteI agree with you but I think that we need to put all the other things in play like our environment or our spiritual wellness etc.
DeleteMarlena, I believe you spoke for the both of us in regards to define healthy. Healthy includes the human body in regards to taking care of our body parts. For example, liver, mouth, kidney and heart that assists us to function properly. Also, the individual who we are on the inside must reflect a positive attitude, good motives for our self, others and everything in our environment.

ReplyDelete1. The terms health and wellness actually have totally different meanings. However, you cannot really have one without the other one. Both health and wellness goes hand-in-hand. Health can be defined as a state of complete physical, mental, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental and spiritual well-being. It focuses as your entire aspect and not only the absence of disease. Wellness can then be defined as the part that focuses entirely on maximizing an individuals’ full potential. This is a continuous process to enhance your physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual and environmental well-being. They both focus on several dimensions that insure that you are healthy and well.
ReplyDelete2. In reality being healthy is a balance of physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental dimensions. Having an active life, a peaceful relationship with other, a positive attitude and being a part of the spiritual; world will all lead to good health.
I must agree if we are short of one we will have an unbalance. Its just like taking a medication to get rid of a cough or cold and you don't or you don't take the medications as prescribed. then you will feel a bit better but not quite. you will be unbalance.
DeleteI like the fact that you included having an active lifestyle for being healthy because that is something that works for many things such as: reducing cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Doing something that you enjoy for example: exercising gives you a clear mind, helps you to stay strong, maintain a healthy weight and much more.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI totally agree with your statement. We cannot function with only having one without having the other.I like that you stated about having a peacefull relationship with others and a positive attitude, because many people cant socialize and interact and that makes their health level goes down.
DeleteI must agree as well, we cannot have one without the other like u said they both work hand in hand and also that its not about diseases but its about our entire aspects..and also it is continuous. It's not an over night thing we should work on it everyday because everyday we face different situations that try to affect our inner and outer being!!
DeleteI’m also in agreement with you guys perspective. In order for one to be in wellness they must be in good health as well. I think that that wellness just means a higher level of being healthy. Just a perfect balance of all the essential dimensions needed to be healthy.
DeleteI totally agree with you Michelle, because Health and Wellness are both different when it comes to their meaning but they work hand in hand. Wellness has to do with Mental, Emotional and Freshness while Health has to do with the Physical and Free from disease aspect. Lastly, being Healthy is having a balance of all the dimensions mention in the chapter, not only your physical body.
DeleteI do agree with what you are saying about having a balanced life because there is an appointed time for everything. (Ecclesiastic chapter 3 verse 1) However, with economic hardship the focus is on working or going to school to further our education. Sometimes striking a balanced is hard but I believe it can be done. I just need to apply it in my life so I can be happy, productive and live a quality life.

ReplyDelete1.) Health and wellness are two different words, however they can be linked in the sense of both having to do with an individuals physical and mental health, with their physical and mental health being stabled and well balanced.
2.) Being healthy is the state of being well balanced in the physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health. Staying positive and with a positive thinking can also improve an individuals health and character.
Yes it may have to do with physical and mental health, with their physical and mental health being stabled and well balanced, but i believe it still plays an important role on the other dimensions being emotional, spiritual, environmental, intellectual and social.
DeleteChelsea, I appreciate your comments on health and wellness. Yes, they are two different words but they are clearly linked, referring to the same idea of achieving a life that is stable and well-balanced. I am also of the agreement that staying positive can improve an individual's health. This is in connection to the dimensions of life. The dimensions are all interrelated. Through being positive, all an individual’s dimensions are improved to some extent. This is an important lesson to teach our students.
DeleteYes I like how you stated about being well balance and how a person positive thinking can improve thier health.
DeleteChelsea I like that your right on point. I also like that you were original by giving your personal thoughts of how wellness and health are linked. You did a tremendous job.
DeleteChelsea i applaud you for giving enough details when it comes to Health and Wellness because both has to with individuals physical and mental health, with their physical and mental health being stabled and well balanced. Like you said being healthy is being balanced.
DeleteBeing healthy is having a balance with all the different dimensions mentioned. after doing all you can do. Being healthy simply means how you feel about yourself.
DeleteI agree, at first I thought healthy lifestyle only had to do with your physical health but after doing some research I learn it also had to do with your emotional health . In order to reach your goal you cant just sit around and plan to make a start you have to get up a make a start and build self confidence in order to reach your goal and so you feel proud of yourself you can even give yourself a reward.
DeleteChelsea I totally agree with you because even if your physically fit but if your not mentally, emotionally, or spiritually healthy you cannot consider that to be healthy. You have to well in all these areas to completely well.
Delete1. healthy and Wellness are different. wellness is when you have achieve all the six dimensions of health the to their highest level. Health is more the changes and the process one goes through to achieve the six dimensions being: spiritual, physical, mental, intellectual, environmental, social, and emmotional.
ReplyDeleteTo be healthy means to be able to function at a fairly good enough level in each of the 6 areas under the dimensions and also to be interactive with other people and the environment.
ReplyDeleteHow are the terms health and wellness similar?
ReplyDeleteHealth refers to the process of improving one’s quality of life. An individual’s health is based on six dimensions which include: the physical dimension, the intellectual dimension, the emotional dimension, the spiritual dimension, the social dimension, and the environmental dimension. “Wellness is a state of optimal well-being that is oriented toward maximizing an individual’s potential,” (Understanding Wellness, 2013). Therefore, wellness is connected to health because by improving healthy behaviors you advance in levels toward an ideal state of wellness. Health and wellness both refer to the dynamic progression of achieving one’s full potential.
What does it really mean to be healthy?
As stated in the previous discussion, health includes six interconnected dimensions. In order for you to identify whether you are healthy, you must assess yourself in regard to each of the dimensions. To be healthy is often mistaken as solely being physically fit. However, you may be physically fit but so emotionally unstable that you lack sufficient sleep which makes you emotionally unstable. If this aspect is not tended to, it will negatively affect the other dimensions of your life because they are all interrelated. Therefore, to assess one’s health, the individual must be examined using a holistic approach looking at all the dimensions of their life. To be healthy is to be well in mind, body and spirit.

I must agree with you whereby you stated that “you can be physically fit but emotionally unstable” because being emotionally unstable can lead to negative emotions in our lives. So we should be fully aware of our health in all aspects. Therefore positive things can be done to prevent such situation from happening such as: communicating more often with others, relationships, your body image, etc.
DeleteI totally agree with you Ms. Hyde, the two words are connected because you cant be healthy and not be fit or visa versa. I like that you stated the six dimensions which are the physical dimension, the intellectual dimension, the emotional dimension, the spiritual dimension, the social dimension, and the environmental dimension.
DeleteAccording to the World Health Organization stated that, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Wellness “A positive approach to living”. Even though health and wellness may have two different meanings and health is more of a broader aspect the similarities that they possess is that they both play very important roles in one’s life whether male or female. Keeping up with the 7 dimensions of wellness allows a person to make choices towards a successful lifestyle and it’s hard having one without the other to stay healthy and happy.
ReplyDeleteWhat it really means to stay healthy is being in a good physical or mental condition. Having good health habits and taking good care of your mind, body and spirit.

Whitney, you did a great job and your information is clear and 100% accurate. I like your personal meaning for what health means to you. Over all you did a wonderful job executing this assignment.
DeleteHello, Whitney I think your observation of health and wellness is very good I totally agree with you keeping up with the dimensions of wellness allows us to make successful decisions. Being aware of what is working in your life and improving it is the best thing one most accomplish
DeleteGreat Work!
Its true what was said, they both have different meanings but the similarities that they posses is the importance of how they both fit together in our everyday life and its hard not having one without the other because we need to focus on the seven dimensions and how to work with them
Deletehigh five for that facts Ms. Whitney . that is absolutely right about being healthy. i like the fact that you got the information which is all facts about being healthy and the similarities health and wellness have... Human beings have choices and need to know how to control these factors that effect their healthy life styles. additional to that, choices dictate many things, but ultimately, lifestyle choices dictate how healthy you live your life. To elaborate, choosing to eat the right foods and maintaining an active lifestyle as opposed to being sedentary can mean the difference between a heart disease and 10 more years of a happy healthy life. Beyond eating right and being active, people can chose to abstain from drug use and unprotected anonymous sexual relations. In both these instances, harmful diseases can be spread that can shorten and negatively affect your lifespan. By avoiding these things, you make a conscious decision to live a full life. Other instances of better lifestyle choices include refraining from dangerous activities such as choosing to cause conflict with others and putting your life in danger.
DeleteBy definition health and wellness is similar. Wellness is basically an active process of becoming aware of and making choices towards a more successful existence. On the other hand, “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” as defined by the World Health Organization. These two terms go together as peanut butter and jelly. It is impossible to be fit and not healthy, they both go hand in hand with each other. According to this definition, wellness has a huge influence on your health, especially if you are trying to live a healthy and better life.
ReplyDeleteMost people think that achieving a set number on a scale means they are healthy. As I mentioned before, you can’t have health without first achieving wellness. My definition of really being healthy is having a well balance meal, with regular exercise.
Shaine you surely have a clear understanding of what you are talking about. The definition of the words refer to each other indeed, that was a great point that you brought up. I like that you used a simile to compare wellness and fitness. Job well done.
Deleteshaine you have great points and understanding of the differences between heath and wellness. I like the fact that you said they both go together as peanut and butter. I totally agree with you. great job !!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteThe terms Health and wellness is similar in certain aspects because one cannot be completely healthy without being well .Although Both have different meanings, healthy is simply define as a person’s state of physical, mental and spiritual well being and include aspects of being healthy and unhealthy. Healthy is also being free from illness and injury. A body can be healthy as in being fit but their mental healthy can be low. Being healthy includes six dimensions which are: Spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual, social and mental. All sums up to a person’s overall well-being.
ReplyDeleteMicoli, I must say that your comment about you being mentally healthy contributes to your overall health. That is so true because someone can be fit and in shape but they are not mentally well. It is a contribution of many things that makes a person well and healthy.
DeleteHow are the terms health and wellness similar?
ReplyDeleteThese two term are similar because they intertwine with each other which simply means that they are linked. My reason for that answer is because they go hand in hand with each other. You cannot say your fit and you are not healthy, you cannot have one without the other. The word health means a person who is physically fit and who body is is a great condition. The definition of wellness is a positive approach to living. It is in regards to weight loss, and it is also the mental attitude a person take towards their goals when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle. If you notice in both of the definition they both refer to each other.
What does it really means to be healthy?
There is not one specific definition for health but my definition of health is defined by the way a person take care of his or her body. For example just by eating a healthy and balance meal daily will benefit you to live a long and healthy life. Not because you’re a size 10 means you’re healthy because it’s not your size that makes you healthy. It’s the food you eat on a regular basis.
DeleteI totally agree with you when you say that health and wellness intertwine with each other. You cannot have one without the other because they both work together. When it comes to health I believe that an individual must practice healthy behaviors. Eating healthy, exercising, watch your calories intake, being social, friendly and all around happy person helps to ensure that you are in good health. Being healthy and staying healthy to me is an ongoing process that you must committee to for the rest of your life. I feel though that most of the time your size does matter especially if it is mostly made up of fat. That is a sign that you are not eating healthy and exercising regularly.
After reading the first chapter of the book I realize what it really means to be healthy. The book defines health as “the ever –changing process of achieving individual potential in the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental, mental, and spiritual dimensions. But to me being healthy encompasses much more than just not being sick. It includes off-course the physical aspect, the ability to do our daily activities. But being healthy involves simple things like being happy, and being focus and having clarity of everything you do in your life. The terms wellness ad health are sometimes seen similar because these terms combine together are the dynamic ever changing process of achieving one’s potential in all the given dimensions. For me, wellness includes three things: balance in body, mind, and soul. I think of them as separate points on an equilateral triangle. No area is more important than the other, but when one area is out of balance, so will the others.

hello, Alaiyah I totally agree with you i think that when your physically fit you are very healthy,Physical activity is essential to prevent and reduce risks of many diseases and improve physical and mental health. It can even help you live longer.A nutritious, well-balanced diet – along with physical activity and refraining from drug abuse is the foundation of good health. One great example of this was the lifestyle that was the one of the ancient greek heavy physical activity and healthy meals helps you to become stronger and live longer

DeleteHealth and wellness are important aspects of our lives and should be taken on as practice in our daily routine. In my understanding health means the absence of disease, being balance in the physical, emotional, environmental, mental, intellectual and spiritual dimensions. As I read chapter 1 I can understand why these dimension are important and how it develops and assist a human in facing everyday lives and its obstacles. Being in physical health doesn’t necessarily means that you need to be able to ride cross country cycling race. It means that your are capable of getting daily activates done such as walking up a four flight of stairs, tying your shoe, getting out of bed, putting on clothes, walking and transferring (such as moving from bed to kitchen/ wheelchair). Social health includes that how your interactions are with others, intellectual health refers to thinking process and how our decisions are made. Be emotionally health contains the ability to control express and feeling to a certain extent. Being environmentally health is the way you think of the environment meaningfully while appreciating its uniqueness. Spiritually healthy is the acknowledgement that there is a higher being, a creator, knowing your role in life and the appreciation of live and its challenges. Wellness is being healthy; it is the highest achievement of being healthy.
ReplyDeleteIt is a life-style that is adopted to have a longer wellbeing life span. It is the perfect equalization of the dimensions.
As the proverb states' Practice makes perfect.' We all know that one can never be 100% healthy but if we eat right , exercise daily, fill our minds with positive things, surround ourselves with positive people, then as you rightly said, these are the perfect equalizations of the dimensions of health and wellness.
DeleteAgree Meletia, Sometimes we don’t really pay attention to our body and we end up overworking ourselves easily. We forget about the most important part of our lives which is our health. What we put in the body and how we treat it is what we are going to get out of it.
DeleteMeletia you have some good points here i must complement you. It looks like you have done your readings and research. Health and Wellness are important aspects of our lives and should be practice daily. Yes, health is the absence of diseases in the body. Healthy is a state of complez Physical, Mental and Social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think about health, I think about being fit, staying in shape and be on a diet of some sort. But after reading up on what health and wellness really is, I have gathered that health is a state of physical, social and mental well being while wellness is the approach you take in order to better of that well being. You cannot be healthy if you are not well and you cannot have wellness if you're not healthy. Like majority of the other post says, these two fit together because in order for you to be healthy you need to work on the seven dimensions that was discussed which are being physically, socially, mentally, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, well. you need to work on you and your inner being as well in order for you to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteWhat it really means to be healthy is not waking up in the morning, do some yoga and feel physically well, yes exercising, dieting and being fit is good but if you don't have a wellness of your "inner being" then you wont be healthy. Like what was discussed in class, smile more often and stay away from negative people are two example to better off your health!!
Hi Mellisa, i guess we were both thinking alike when it comes to health because at first i though it was about eating healthy foods, exercising and preventing oneself from diseases. Eventually, when i read the health text, i understand there was more to health as u stated in your answers. i like the fact that your points that you stated was clear especially the one that stated you cannot have wellness if your not healthy.
DeleteI also thought the same thing and now it made me realize that even if i worked on the being in shape and staying in fit I still wouldn't be living a healthy lifestyle.
DeleteI do agree with what you said, Mellisa. Being healthy doesn't mean only addressing the physical body. It also refers to addressing all other dimensions of life. Would you say that someone with a great body posture, who is very pessimistic, is healthy? Of course not, in order for that person to be completely healthy, they must be positive, have spiritual awareness, being mentally stable and be able to socialize with peers and family.
DeleteWellness is the achievement of the highest level of health possible in each several dimension such as social, intellectual, emotional, environmental and spiritual health. Health is defined as the ever- changing process of achieving individual potential. The two terms are similar because they both focus on the several interrelated dimensions. In order to achieve high level of wellness, an individual must have positive health indicators.
ReplyDeleteThe word health defines an individual who abides by the even dimension of wellness that is stated: physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental, mental and spiritual dimension. To truly be healthy an individual must be capable of always doing physical activities such a jogging, swimming and etc. being positive of oneself, having high self-esteem, understand the purpose of human life and existence, encourage creative stimulating mental activates, interacting with others and the greater environment.

Hi Sherain, i understand why your saying that health defines an individual who abides by the even dimension of wellness that is stated: physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental, mental and spiritual dimension. each dimension is intertwined with each other, in a lot of cases one cannot work without the other.
DeleteAccording to the World Health Organization. They stated that "health and wellness", is similar in that when they are both used in conjunction with each other, a person would be able to live a healthy and happy life. It states that health can be defined as an overall spectrum of a persons physical, mental and social well-being, and not only does it deals with the absence of disease or infirmity. Wellness on the other hand, is said to have a direct influence on an individual overall health, which is very important for a person trying to live a better life. In my view they both have different concepts, but in order for an individual to be well, they first need to be healthy. In other words you cannot have one without the other.
ReplyDeleteTo be healthy means to be physically, mentally, environmentally, intellectually, socially and emotionally stable because these are components that makes us who we are as a person. For a person to be healthy, they need to care for the body from the inside out, they need to have positive thoughts, and they need to look at the things they do in and out of their surroundings. Being healthy, is what each individual wants because it's what makes us feel better about ourselves.
This is so right, for a person to be healthy, they must take care of their body from the inside out.Not only that but our environment also plays an important role in order for us to be healthy. When they are all combined together the end result will be happiness.
DeleteIt is true that being healthy s not only a "face value". A person needs to start nourishing and exercising from the inside, in order to attain their goal of being healthy. Having a positive attitude, showing gratitude, being sociable, emotionally stable, showing appreciation for God's nature and recognizing the importance of our environment are what encompasses a healthy living and produces a healthy being.

I do agree with Mr. Mario because being healthy, is not just about being free of all illnesses, or being fit. Being healthy encompasses many more aspects of our lives than just shedding a few pounds. Being healthy and well means taking a positive, and proactive attitude towards life and living it to the fullest.
DeleteMiss Hislop, I do agree with your comment about: " it's not the size that counts but, it's the kind of food you put in your mouth". My reason for agreeing is because an individual that eats healthy, will be able to live a longer and healthier life, when compare to a person who is thin and eating all the unhealthy food. I believe you hit the nail right on the head with that.
DeleteI do agree, we all want to be healthy. It is true is true in order to work on being healthy we need to work on both the interior and exterior factors (being physically healthy is only a part of it).
DeleteHealth is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. On the other hand wellness is actually defined as a positive approach to living. Health and wellness works hand in hand with each because being healthy is indeed a positive approach to living. To be truly healthy is to achieve physical, emotional, intellectual, social, spiritual and environmental wellness.
ReplyDeleteHi Shawn,
DeleteI totally agree with you. If we are not stable in our physical, social and emotional heath, then we need to reflect on our inner being and contend with the negatives in order to strive for health and wellness to be pertinent factors in our lives.
What does it really mean to be healthy? Living healthy involves a mix of physical, mental, and emotional components that make us who we are. We literally create our bodies from the inside out with what we put in, what we think, and what we do. Regardless of what we think picture-pefect health looks like, there is one thing we all have in common when it comes to health: Everyone wants to feel better. Our health begins in our insides and doesn't stop at our skin. Our health (healthy or not) radiates beyond our skin into the world in the form of our actions. How we live not only affects our body, mind, and spirit, but also affects the body, mind, and spirit of everyone we encounter.
ReplyDeleteWhen we think of wellness , we can say with some level of certainty that wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life.Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Wellness matters. Wellness matters because everything we do and every emotion we feel relates to our well-being. In turn, our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing circle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to achieve optimal wellness in order to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions. Therefore, these two are interrelated and can add vitality and vigor to one's life as we allow our physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions to soar to new levels of a holistic you.
Indeed Shirlet, being healthy is a combination of physical, mental and emotional components. When it comes to wellness, i agree fully with you as it is a process in which we must make choices that leads to a healthy and fulfilling life.
Deletebeing healthy means to be in the state of having a sound and vigorous body and fully-functioning mind.
ReplyDeleteI believe Health and wellness correlates with each other because they both have to do with a person physical, Emotional, Social, Intellectual, Environmental and spiritual abilities.
ReplyDeleteBeing healthy means a person simply feels good about him or herself as they would strive for better and not settling.
Surely agree, it’s the mind that function I order to makes to body make healthy choices.
DeleteThe relationship between health and wellness is that they both work together. Even though they stand for different things, you can't really have one without the other if you want to be healthy and happy. Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.
ReplyDeleteWellness on the other hand, is a positive approach to living in regards of being in good physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, social, environmental and spiritual health. Weight loss, it is the mental attitude you take toward your goals when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle.

In my veiw health and wellness is quite similar because being well means having a positive attitude physically, mentally, and emotionally towards being healthy. Being healthy means to be to well physically, mentally and socially with little or no sign of sickness. So if you want to start living a healthy lifestyle you will have to start with being well and thinking positive towards your goals.
ReplyDeleteTo really be healthy is to be healthy physically, which means eating healthy , exercise and to have no sign of sickness. Being healthy also means you have healthy relationships with family, peers etc. It also means to be stress free and you do everything with a positive attitude
ReplyDelete
DeleteI do agree with Monique that health and wellness are very similar to each other. In order for an individual to be health they need to practice living a healthy life style such as mental. physical, emotional and social well being. Wellness has an direct influences and attitude towards your life style. In order for a person to have a healthy life style they can choose to be either health or unhealth.
Being health is not about being physicallly fit. If a person does not have all the different aspect they are not consider to be health because a person cannot only be physically healthy. You need to eat healthy, socialized with friends and families to have a clean heart and be happy and feed your spirit with a postivity. In order for a person to be health they need to also have a positive mind.
DeleteYes I agree, because that helps your body functions more freely and will helps the body circulate and makes the body very active.
DeleteHow are the terms health and wellness similar?
ReplyDeleteHealth is the ever-changing process of achieving individual potential in the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions. Wellness is the achievement of the highest level of health possible in each of several dimensions. Firstly, these two terms differ a little because health is the process / steps we take and wellness is the end product. With this said, health and wellness are mostly similar because they both entails achieving full potential of physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental, mental and spiritual dimensions. We cannot have one without the other if you we want to be healthy and happy. Also, all the dimensions tie in together and one cannot be achieved without the other.
What does being healthy means?
Being healthy means taking steps and procedures to achieve the highest level of all dimensions. This can be done by eating right, getting enough rest, having positive relationships with friends and families, taking care of the environment, controlling emotions. Overall, it means being able to take responsibilities and make right choices for today and the future.
ReplyDeleteThe terms health and wellness are interrelated because according to Donatelle (2006) health is a process of reaching individual potential of physical, social, intellectual, emotional, environmental, mental and spiritual dimension while wellness is getting the highest level of each these dimension.
I have watched the television show, “Health your greatest wealth” on Belize Broadcasting Network. I implied being healthy meant being disease free. However after reading “The basics” being healthy includes living a healthy lifestyle that involves to coping with life’s every day stressors, having a good relationship with a family member or mate, believing in a supreme being, showing appreciation for the environment by keeping it clean and doing daily activities such as walking up stairs. This will allow us to be happy, despite obstacles.
I totally agree with u having good relationship with family members and being environmental friendly believing in the supreme being do help us to carry on and be happy spiritually in our every day life.

ReplyDeleteHow are health and wellness similar?
ReplyDeleteHealth and wellness are similar as they both share the same dimensions of physical social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and environmental dimensions of life. Health is the ability to fulfill your potential in the broader spectrum of the various dimensions of life. It refers to the physical body being free from diseases, and is a goal to be achieved ( for example: losing weight, lowering blood pressure.) Whilst, wellness is a dynamic concept that continues for a lifetime. Wellness refers to lifestyle practices that you strive for balance throughout your entire life. It may seem as a challenge to be or stay healthy, but it is actually quite simple and can have lasting effects on your self-esteem, mood, weight, fitness, energy level, ability to interact socially and most importantly combats disorders and diseases.
Wellness and health go hand in hand, however they also mean different things. For example, mental health involves the brain and includes mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression. Mental wellness means the attitude you carry throughout your day, having positive self-talk to have a positive mind set. Both wellness and health work together to create a holistic state of being.
